Abstract

Although several studies have been conducted in recent years on Emotional Intelligence (EI) and its relationship with English as Foreign Language (EFL), with language learning anxiety and strategy, but a few has specifically focused on exploring the affect of reading literature on students EI. The study in this article focuses on answering three questions; how reading literature at graduate level affect students’ Emotional Intelligence? Does EI of science and art stream students vary? Is there any relation between Emotional Intelligence and locality of the student? Here art and science refer to literature reading and non-reading groups of graduate students respectively. For the purpose research has been done in three phases; phase 1 collecting traces of relationship between reading literature and Emotional Intelligence, phase 2 comparing graduate students of art and science and phase 3 comparing graduate students of art and science of different locale (rural and urban).
