Abstract

A type of care used when a cure is not likely or when people are in the last months of life is Hospice
care. It is used by his health care team to provide palliative care, or supportive care, to help prevent or
relieve cancer symptoms. It also helps with treatment side effects. He can receive this care any time
during cancer treatment. This includes when he is getting treatment for a cure. Hospice care prevents
and relieves symptoms and helps him live the rest of his life as well as possible.
The main difference between palliative care and hospice care is that palliative can begin at any point
along the cancer care continuum but hospice care begins when curative treatment is no longer the
goal of care and the sole focus is quality of life
