Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of coriander oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles.

Materials and Methods: Coriander oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles were prepared initially and confirmed by using UV-Visible Spectroscopy. The prepared Coriander oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles were further evaluated for its antimicrobial properties by standard procedure against S. mutans, Lactobacillus, S. aureus and C. albicans.

Results and Discussion: The study showed UV-Visible spectroscopy peak at 420 nm indicating silver nanoparticles synthesis. It showed a dose dependent antibacterial activity with S. aureus and S. mutans. S. aureus was very sensitive to Coriander oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles with maximum zone of inhibition of 22 mm at its highest concentration (150μL) used. Lactobacillus showed the same zone of inhibition at all concentrations used. C. albicans has the highest zone of inhibition (20 mm) at its highest concentration (150 μL) of nanoparticles.

Conclusion: The present study concludes that the Coriander oleoresin mediated silver nanoparticles have a good antimicrobial activity and may be used for infections caused by S. mutans, S. aureus and C. albicans.
